Job Description – Teacher Advisor for the Student Council
Position Overview:
The Teacher Advisor for the Student Council at Romerike International School plays a key role in fostering student leadership and enhancing school community life. The advisor is responsible for guiding the Student Council as they represent the student body and organise initiatives that contribute to the school’s core values of Outdoor Education, Service, Wellbeing, Entrepreneurship, and Sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Council Selection: Create a process for the selection of the council.
- Student Leadership Development: Support and mentor Student Council members in their roles, helping them build leadership, communication, and organisational skills. Encourage them to take ownership of projects and represent their peers effectively.
- Meeting Facilitation: Oversee the scheduling, planning, and running of Student Council meetings. Ensure meetings are productive, structured, and focused on actionable outcomes. Assist the council in setting agendas and tracking progress on initiatives.
- Activity Coordination: Help the Student Council plan and execute a variety of student-led events and activities throughout the school year. Provide logistical support, guidance, and feedback to ensure successful outcomes.
- Liaison Role: Serve as the link between the Student Council and the school administration. Facilitate open communication between students and school leadership, ensuring student perspectives are taken into consideration in decision-making processes.
- Goal Setting and Alignment: Assist the Student Council in establishing clear goals for the academic year. Ensure that their projects and activities align with the school’s broader mission and values, particularly its pillars of Wellbeing, Sustainability, and Service.
- Encouraging Service and Engagement: Promote and support the Student Council’s involvement in service-oriented activities, both within the school and the wider community. Ensure these initiatives align with the school’s commitment to local and global service.
- Event Supervision: Attend and supervise student council-led events, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students, while also providing support where needed.
- Budget Oversight: Help the Student Council manage any allocated budgets for their activities and events, guiding them in responsible financial planning and expenditure.
