Job Description – Teaching Assistant

Job Purpose

As a Teaching Assistant at Romerike International School, you play a key role in supporting the holistic development of students and assisting classroom teachers with instructional delivery. Key Responsibilities

Classroom Support

  • Collaborate with teachers: Assist in the implementation of the IB curriculum by supporting lesson delivery, helping to prepare materials, and ensuring that students are engaged in inquiry-based learning.
  • Student assistance: Provide individualised or small-group support to students who require additional help, whether academically, socially, or emotionally. Reinforce learning objectives and assist students with their inquiries.
  • Classroom environment: Help create a well-organised, welcoming, and inclusive learning space that reflects the IB ethos. Ensure materials are ready, classrooms are tidy, and displays are maintained.
  • Assessment and feedback: Support teachers in observing and documenting student progress, contributing insights about student learning and behaviour. You may help assess informal learning moments and provide input for reports.

Student Welfare

  • Support student well-being: As a Teaching Assistant, you are expected to uphold the school’s focus on student welfare. You will ensure students are not only SAFE physically but also feel emotionally secure within the classroom and play areas.
  • Model positive behaviour: Demonstrate and encourage students to follow the school’s behaviour expectations of being READY, SAFE, and RESPECTFUL. Guide students toward making positive choices, both academically and socially, by modeling respectful interactions.
  • Individual support: Assist students with special learning needs in line with their Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or other accommodations, as directed by the teacher.

 

Duties

  • Supervision of outdoor activities: Oversee students during break and recess times, ensuring they engage in safe, inclusive, and enjoyable play.
  • Promote respectful play: Encourage students to interact positively and solve conflicts constructively, in line with the school’s READY, SAFE, and RESPECTFUL framework.
  • Risk management: Actively monitor the playground to ensure that students follow safety rules, intervene when necessary, and report any incidents to the appropriate staff.

  • Teamwork: Collaborate with the teaching staff and leadership team to ensure the success of all students. Regularly communicate with classroom teachers to align on goals and strategies for student support.
  • Professional development: Actively participate in professional development opportunities, particularly those related to the IB framework and the school’s pedagogical approach. Engage in reflective practice to continually improve your skills as a Teaching Assistant.

School community involvement: Participate in school events, staff meetings, and other activities that contribute to the broader life of the school. As a member of an international school community, your presence and engagement in these events enriches the school environment.
